                                                   The Caribbean Food Securities Project

Tomato inter crop trials

Caribbean agriculture is characterized by limited land space, threats due to disasters and seasonality of production. As a result food security is severely affected. the Caribbean Food Security Project (CFSP) seeks to solve this problem. the project is sponsored by the International Development Research Center. A The number of regional institutions will execute the project such as:  The University of The West Indies, the ministries of agriculture in selected countries (St. Kitts, St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago), CARDI and CFNI and  The Division of Agriculture of SALCC.

The overall objective is to improve the food situation in the Caribbean states both individually and collectively by increasing the availability and access to adequate quantities of  highly nutritious, safe food.

The project consist of a number of experiments including: tomato, banana, water melon, sweet pepper, sweet potato etc. It will include both open field and green house trials.

The project Commenced in August of 2011 and will end in August 2013.
